My best creative work

The short story above is my creative piece for HSC extension English, an example of a short Sci-fi writing it tampers with archetypes and perspectives to provide unique didacticisms about modern society. Written during an impromptu class task it was constantly improved over the course of the whole year, slowing overcoming all previous creative endeavours.

A great piece of architecture

The louvre’s glass pyramid is situated in an intriguing predicament amongst the classical context, once the subject of controversy it has become more synonymous with the city then the museum itself. The main pyramid was originally proposed as a solution for circulation issues upon entry, with three smaller counterparts positioned to create guiding light shafts for each of the separate collections. The structure, despised by many, was described as an ancient Egyptian symbol of death, however it seems to represent a gentle, practical and necessary modernisation of Parisian iconography. There exists a respectful aspect about the glass panelling which doesn’t alter, disguise or overshadow the colour and silhouette of the surrounding buildings, which combined with the intricate metalwork allows a unique standalone appreciation; for what was conceived as a supporting building.

An original picture of something beautiful

Housed in the canopic gardens near Changi international airport, this crocodile is amongst various sculptures crafted from live floral arrangements. It officially resides in the Jewel shopping complex which is itself a prime example of sustainable and neo-futuristic architectural styles. The beauty within this specific sculpture relates its internal dissonance and appropriacy within the park itself. Semantically crocodiles are associated with their murky camouflage, sharp features and scaly texture, all of which are subverted in its construction. The bright warm colours inquire attention, as rounded teeth and a large cartoonish eye draw one in to touch and appreciate its soft floral skin. There still remains tension but after first contact, a sigh of relief heralds a beautiful appreciation for the work. This artwork is obviously appropriate superficially, but also on a deeper level due a similar tension created pervasive modernism within the airport, it invites onlookers to similarly embrace and appreciate the architecture of the jewel shopping complex.
