Design Journal 15/03/2020

The 3D model is nearing completion basic materiality still remains, along with landscaping and detailing of the studio below.

Most of today's progress was marked by the integration of custom textures, intially this was done in a simplistic manner and on the framic of the geodesic canopy. However the brown colouration of the charred texture along the traditonial implmentation of wooden geodesic framing, seemed a simplisitc solution. Despite altering, the size, colur and pattern of the texture, framing still looked simplistic and so this idea was scrapped later, due to its lack of distincitiveness.

Next I turned to using darker texture to emphaise the curvatures and complexities of the roof structures. The dark pattering emphsises the gentle curves, their contrast with the sky and affords intricacy to the seemingly monlithic multitextured compenents.

The harsh geometry created by the hexagonal dome offered a disjuntive solution to the integration of an interior photography space and so was changed for a comparitively circular and more orgnaic structure. Further more it made it dificult to experiment with interesting material choices which were always required to overshadow its monolithic appearance. A more light-hearted dome was added allowing for a colourful canopy generated by the smooth texture.

The scale of the voids left by the walls of the upper floor presented a unique challenge, after intial thoughts thier design seemed to reflect accessability to veichles rather than people. This dehumanisiation of the architecture was offset through the texturing of the walls. Furthermore the interplay between large and inticate forms was genereated almost solely through the use of the abrasive custom texture which allowed two priveleged viewing angles; from within the veichles and upclose to the workspaces.
